a look at california’s prison growth

This poster series was designed to educate the viewer on the increase of prisons and inmate population in California from 1980 to 2008.

The first poster shows the locations of prisons in California built before 1980, after 1980, and then visually represents the percentage of overcrowding experienced in 2008.

The second poster shows prisoners and correctional officers growth in relationship to the accelerated growth of the correctional guards union, CCPOA. In the 1980's the correctional officers union gained more political power then ever before which resulted in California's prison landscape growing to profit the union.
